Johnny Ekstrom scored the only goal of the game after five minutes, but it was sufficient to win the game for the visitors. For Leeds, there was a double substitution in the fifty-third minute as Simon Grayson replaced Gary McAllister at Inside Left and Imre Varadi came on for Gary Speed at Outside Left. Later, Carl Shutt came on for Right Half Gary Kelly after seventy-two minutes, John McClelland replaced Jon Newsome at Right Back after seventy-seven minutes. The visitors made two changes in the fifty-third minute with Magnus Johansson replacing Tore Pedersen at left half and Ola Svensson replacing Pontus Kamark at centre forward. They made further changes, with Zoran Stojcevski coming on for Kaj Eskelinen at right back in the seventy-eighth minute and Nordstrom replacing Johnny Ekstrom at inside left three minutes from time.
